Say hello to LuLu, Pavlova and Nellie the Koalas – the newest editions to The Pier, brought to you by Cairns Koalas & Creatures.

Conveniently located at The Pier Cairns, this family and education-focused experience is set to take guests on an immersive journey, spanning from the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef to the rugged beauty of the Australian outback. The Woodlands Exhibit, the first unveiled section of the attraction, showcases Australia’s unique woodland creatures and brings attention to the challenges they face in their natural habitats.

What time is the exhibition open?

The Koalas are here to greet you daily from 9am to 5pm.

What time can I get a photo?

You’ll have the opportunity to snap a once-in-a-lifetime photo with our furry friends.  Photo sessions run every hour on the half-hour: 9.30, 10.30, 11.30, 12.30, 13.30, 14.30, 15.30 & 16.30.

Is the exhibition free?

You’re welcome to come by and say hello free of cost. Visitors can get up close and personal with these Australian icons, learn more from their devoted keepers, and purchase a souvenir photo with one of the koalas to capture the memory. By purchasing a photo, you help to support our mission of providing our koalas with a great life.

Do I have to hold a Koala for a photo?

You have the choice to either hold a koala in a photo or, next to one sitting on a perch.

Can children hold a Koala?

Yes, children are welcome. Please note that children must be able to safely hold a koala during the photo session. This is determined at the discretion of our trained Koala Keepers.
